Tahu isi

This is a recipe for a popular Indonesian snack sold by street-side vendors. The stuffed, battered and deep-fried tofu puffs are served with red hot chillies and black tea or beer to help tame the heat.

8 pieces of tofu (bean curd)
3-5 carrots
200-250 grams of white cabbage
150 grams of flour
150 grams of rice flour
1 red onion (or purple onion)
3 garlic cloves, optional
2 teaspoons of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of coriander seed powder
1 teaspoon of ginger powder
3 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
1-2 tablespoons of corn starch (or maize starch) or potato starch
cooking oil, for deep-frying
